Dentist

Dr. Theresa Holt graduated from the Creighton University School of Dentistry in 1987. She followed in the footsteps of two of her siblings who are also dentists and married her fellow classmate, Dr. Michael Holt. Dr. Theresa and Dr. Michael have been practicing dentistry in Fairfield for over 35 years. They have two children. Lauren is a violin educator at Punahou School in Honolulu where she resides with her husband, Dr. Austin Ako (a dentist); Michael is a student at Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Dr. Theresa is a member of the American Dental Association, a lifetime member of the Iowa Dental Association, and a member of the Southeast Iowa District Dental Society. Within the community Dr. Theresa has served on the St. Mary Catholic Church Parish Council, Fairfield Community School District Vertical Team, St. Mary Preschool Board (past president), Xavier University Parent/Family Advisory Board (past president), Jefferson County Medical Dental Auxiliary, and is a member of PEO Chapter C. She currently serves on a committee through the Ottumwa Regional Legacy Foundation.

Dr. Michael is from Galesburg, Illinois, the seventh child in a family of nine children. Six of his siblings, including Dr. Michael, attended Creighton University in Omaha Nebraska. He graduated from the Creighton University School of Dentistry in 1987. By the luck of the alphabet, he and Dr. Theresa sat right next to each other in dental school. Dr. Michael and Dr. Theresa have been in practice together in Fairfield for over 35 years.

Dr. Michael is currently a member of the American Dental Association, a lifetime member of the Iowa Dental Association, and a member of the Southeast Iowa District Dental Society. Dr. Michael is a past president of the Southeast Iowa District Dental Society. He has served as chairman of the Membership Benefits Committee of the Iowa Dental Association, and also as an adjunct Instructor at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry.

Dr. Michael’s community memberships include the Libertyville Savings Bank Board of Directors (1995- present); Fairfield Airport Commission; Xavier University Parent/Family Advisory Board (past president); St. Mary Catholic Church Parish Council; Knights of Columbus; Rotary International, and the Elks Club. He is a past member of the Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, the Fairfield Golf and Country Club Board of Directors, and the St. Mary Catholic Church Parish Council. He presently serves on the Finance Committee at St. Mary Church and is the Fairfield High School Boys Head Tennis Coach (2019-present).
